The original Castle Freak is no masterpiece, but it was always a personal favorite of mine from the late/great Stuart Gordon and while I never would have asked for a remake I can definitely see the potential of one, but this film just didn't do it for me unfortunately. It's a trashy, low budget, B horror film to its core and while you could probably classify the original film as a B horror film at least it had certain qualities about it that helped elevate it like the cast and the direction.

This flick had some decent bits of gore and quite of bit of nudity and sex scenes thrown in, but that's really it, because I can't say that I cared or even liked any of the characters and the direction in this is amateurish at best with some pretty over the top and unconvincing performances. That one sex scene really grossed me out though and if you see it you would know which one I'm talking about because you won't be able to unsee it lol.

I haven't seen the original but I can understand why someone would have tried to remake it. The story has potential to even spawn sequels if done right even with B level treatment. Unfortunately this isn't it. Here we get uneven pacing, poor use practical of practical effects and piss poor acting. There is lots of nudity that amounts to nothing and the castle is beautiful and haunting at the same time.

And yes there is a scene that is probably best not seen, I really wish to forget it but it's too gross to erase from my mind.
