Lovers Rock is a 2020 romance film directed by Steve McQueen and co-written by McQueen and Courttia Newland. It stars Micheal Ward and Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn as two lovers who meet at a blues house party in the 1980s in West London.[1] The film was released as part of the anthology series Small Axe on BBC One on 22 November 2020 and Amazon Prime Video on 27 November 2020. It premiered as an opening film at the 58th New York Film Festival on 24 September 2020

This was hypnotic and beautiful. I found myself incredibly captivated by it although it's essentially plotless. The "Silly Games" sequence in particular is really stunning. Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn is also a lovely lead and I expect big things from her. A

The right word to describe this movie is "hypnotic". With no essential plot it works very well and whenever the plot does come it just a distraction from main proceedings i.e. rock and dance. Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn is really good here as the lead. The finale evokes the emotion of leaving the house at night without the knowledge of your parents.
