Hunnam is great in this but the movie is derivative of so many past movies that have handled this subject so much better that it is unable to set itself apart. For a boxing movie other than the final fight we do not see much fighting and it does not work as an effective road trip movie because from the beginning things are going in an obvious direction in a routine fashion. The conflicts/issues are introduced out of nowhere and we end with a completely different movie throughout. The direction from Max Winkler is pretty good and keep things interesting till the very end where he is unable to handle the emotional depth or the final boxing scenes (that fails to generate any tension).

I thought this was pretty solid, but it was the performances that I enjoyed the most. It's well directed and both Hunam and O'Connell are great in it and worked really well together as brothers, however we have seen plenty of these kinds of boxing/dramas before and this movie definitely didn't break any new ground in that department. The emotional impact of it wasn't all that effective either IMO no matter how much I enjoyed the performances.

Also, Fran Kranz and Johnathan Majors were completely wasted in this.
