 Re: Hubie Halloween
Sandler's best film from Netflix by far. Not a major home run, but the atmosphere and a lot of fun cameos (Bowen isn't the only Happy Gilmore alum!) keeps it going pretty breezy. I think had Sandler not gone for a Bobby Buchay type character, it could have been a great halloween film. But for what it is just like The Wrong Missy earlier this year, Happy Madison seems to be moving in a better direction (totally would have loved to hear Buscemi scream "Get off my Lawn!" though, he was almost the living version of his Monster House character!

 Re: Hubie Halloween
I'm sure this movie will have its fans, but I can't say that I one of them. I didn't hate it, but the best thing about this movie IMO is the Halloween theme. I'm such a sucker for anything Halloween related and this felt like a true Halloween film, but that's where most of the praise ends for me. Sandler's character in this is so ridiculously over the top and annoying at times and I kind of understood why the whole town pretty much hated him.
I enjoyed seeing other actors in this though like Julie Bowen, Steve Buscemi, Tim Meadows, Ray Liotta and Michael Chiklis, but they feel more like glorified cameos than actual characters even if the scenes there in are somewhat fun. The humor in this movie is really dumb too, but it did get some chuckles out of me in certain spots mostly because of the randomness of it.

 Re: Hubie Halloween
Gave this is a shot since I enjoyed Murder Mystery last year, but this was Ultra Meh. Every character in this movie, Hubie included, is pretty awful. Does he deserve to be treated like shit? No, but it becomes apparent that his speech impediment is not the only reason this is happening. He is very annoying and inserts himself into all sorts of situations that he does not belong in. The movie doesn't seem to understand this though, so Julie Bowen has to constantly tell the audience what a great guy Hubie is and then its revealed that rather than making fun of his faults all this years, all the other characters were just jealous! Yawn. Stupid.

I agree, I think if they went for either town nut (like Sandler is the old Friday 13th character telling people they are doomed) would have worked better and multiple mysteries could have been explored. The speech impediment only worked in that one bit when he is talking through the car window. Sandler also really needs to lose that mustache.

 Re: Hubie Halloween
I know these movies do well with Netflix and its timely release with themes of Halloween will make this another one to do well. This is just the usual Sandler movie and if you didn't like the past movies of Sandler (specially on Netflix) then you are not going to like this either. I am just sad that Sandler after a great role in Uncut Gems went to this crapfest. It also wastes so many of its talented cast here.
