I generally love these dysfunctional family dramas but then most of them are like Blackbird which look and sound good on paper, have great cast but do not translate well onto big screen. Blackbird ticks all the blocks but doesn't do much with its talented cast. It needed that one big explosive scene to stand-out instead it plays its emotional card and doubles down on it. The cast is all really good in here, Kate Winslet effortlessly stands out here. It also had the chance to play with the mortality concept but again abandons those to become a tear-jerker instead.
