Imagine Jurassic Park Lost World but instead of dinosaurs we have zombies. It completely squanders any logic or tension that Train to Busan built in favor of action and unearned emotional resonance. The zombie action takes backstage over human politics. The reason to go back to Peninsula is also weird. A big letdown from the original movie.

I enjoyed it even though Train to Busan is far superior. The action sequences were pretty well done, although those CGI enhanced car chases were distractingly bad at times. I really liked the Jung Seok and Ming Jung characters though, but this plot as well as the villains were complete weak sauce all around.

Peninsula doesn't come close to the heights of Train the Busan, which is on the Mount Rushmore of Zombie movies (or whatever the South Korean version of Mount Rushmore is.) Taken as just a fun zombie blockbuster though? This movie is great! The car chase during the finale would make any Fast and Furious or Mad Max sequel proud. The movie always has extraordinary cinematography too, just beautiful to look at. And while there isn't much in the way of character (guilt-ridden men, tough girls, crazy guys, etc...), I still got a little choked up at the very end, so they did enough to make me care about their survival at least.
