Portrait of a Lady on Fire
Quote: Portrait of a Lady on Fire (French: Portrait de la jeune fille en feu) is a 2019 French historical drama film written and directed by Céline Sciamma, starring Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel. Set in France in the late 18th century, the film tells the story of a forbidden affair between an aristocrat and a painter commissioned to paint her portrait.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.[4][5] The film won the Queer Palm at Cannes, becoming the first film directed by a woman to win the award.[6] Sciamma also won the award for Best Screenplay at Cannes.[1][7][8] The film was theatrically released in France on 18 September 2019.[9]
It was nominated for Independent Spirit Awards, Critics' Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards for Best Foreign Language Film and was chosen by the National Board of Review as Top Five Foreign Language Films of 2019.

Re: Portrait of a Lady on Fire
It is a very slow burner, taking its sweet time building the emotional tension. But with patience, everything pays off, and I was left far more impacted than I expected to be. The deliberate, sparse use of music (there is basically no score) was almost agonizing but incredibly effective. I love the feel of the burgeoning affection, love, and sisterhood of the main (three) players. And I feel the movie does an excellent job not collapsing the depth of the relationship and its impacts and into simplified impressions... this is a deeply romantic, and melancholic, and stunningly beautiful, and utterly devastating story brought to very fleshed out life. Very much feels a companion piece to Call Me By Your Name, down to the last shot. Heart. Ache. Beautiful Sorrow. Wow. A

This really is an exquisite film. I cried throughout the last 25 minutes. It's achingly romantic and beautiful. The stunner of an ending just brings it all home perfectly. The cinematography is breathtaking. This should have been nominated for so many Oscars.

Re: Portrait of a Lady on Fire
This was really good movie specially towards the end. Its a slow burner but that is required to build the relationship between the two leads, in the end its very convincing, you feel so invested with them that its heartbreaking the way it ends. The only problem is that it needed a bit more time for their relationship to evolve and yes what pe#1 mentioned is really emotional. I loved what they did with the ending and I really wished that "she turned". Pure cinematic treasure where the camera spends last 3 minutes or so at stand still and let the actor do their thing. Highly recommended!

This was great - Adèle Haenel delivers a stupendous performance and has an incredibly magnetic screen presence. The production design and cinematography are also stunning.
