Re: Insidious: The Last Key Lin Shaye's presence as outwardly unassuming medium Elise is still warm and welcome, and it is not bad for a PG-13 jump-scare film released in early January, but The Last Key is definitely the worst Insidious film so far and a victim of franchise fatigue, at least on a creative front. It has numerous ideas and components—the new antagonist (the key-themed demon) in his entirety; men in the house being driven to abduct and murder women à la The Shining; Elise's estranged family, including a psychic niece—which feel underdeveloped or hastily inserted, and the inevitable climax in the ghostly "Further" is anticlimactic and short on genuine jolts.

I was satisfied and entertained by this film. I watched it with a good crowd and the main reason I like this serious is not necessarily the "universe" they've built but rather the excellence in the jump scares they are able to create. Now, I also do like the varies demons and things they've made over the four films too. The only thing I really wasn't a fan of in this film were her two associates. They were so annoying and rarely funny in this one.
