Re: Shot Caller
I enjoyed this quite a bit. Out of three films directed by Ric Roman Waugh it's probably my second favorite after Felon. The guy really knows how to make a gritty, crime film and I'm honestly surprised he isn't getting more chances from bigger studios. He clearly has the talent for this kind of stuff, but I love how it feels as if he's making the movies he wants to make without shying away from certain things. This film is just as brutal and realistic as Felon when it comes to the violence which is probably why it's not getting much of a theatrical release and that's too bad because it definitely deserves to be seen by a wide audience. I can easily say I'm very much looking forward to seeing more from this guy in the future.

Re: Shot Caller
Like Felon, the only other Waugh film I've seen before, Shot Caller is a very good prison drama. In some way I hoped it to be more epic, and instead it's more confined to a simpler story line. Regardless it's really good in how it tells the story and pounds through the simple message of the evil prison system and what it does to a man. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is great in it, as is Jeffrey Donovan in a small role. The film is gritty, the tone and score are fitting and with its 2hr run time it tells a very complete story. I enjoyed the cool layer of realism it's made with and like Dil I look forward to seeing more Waugh films.

I just read he's slated to direct the next installment in the "Has Fallen" series, Angel Has Fallen, good news. http://variety.com/2017/film/news/olympus-has-fallen-sequel-angel-has-fallen-director-ric-roman-waugh-1202504451/

Re: Shot Caller
This was just on The Rewatchables, and I watched it again too, still like this a lot. Nothing new to really remark I guess, wish Waldau would get some bigger roles though, love his intensity in this.
