 The Negotiator
The Negotiator Quote: The Negotiator is a 1998 drama-thriller film directed by F. Gary Gray, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. It takes place in Chicago and was released on July 29, 1998. The original music score was composed by Graeme Revell. This is Warner Bros.'s last film produced with Regency Enterprises until The Fountain. Another good example of why Hollywood sucks these days. They don't have movies like The Negotiator anymore. A

I thought this movie was pretty decent. It reminds me a bit of Collateral. Just tight tension and talk, without much in the way of changing location (inside cab, inside room). I liked that he resorted to speaking with someone outside of his district because of internal conflict. But I didn't like how he kept being on top of the spying technology. The first thing an expert knows is that they won't think of everything. That might be my affinity for The Conversation though (the other technology and spying movie, heh). Still, pretty tight, I wasn't bored, I liked the back story. Good Movie, didn't try to be more than what it was.

This is one of the most underrated thrillers ever. Samuel L. Jackson is great as always and it's great to see him as a lead in an action movie once again. The story, while nothing truly groundbreaking or original never bores the viewer. Kevin Spacey is great in it as well. Not one of his best roles, but he's always good no matter what movie he's in. Moreover, there's a wide array of great supporting cast in this one as well. Just as Dolcevita pointed out, this one manages to be very entertaining and suspenseful without really having much action. The location rarely changes, there are barely any shoot-outs, no fights....and yet this is one of the best actioners in the past 5-10 years.

This was a major surprise. One of the lamest, most cliched premises imaginable somehow becomes a pretty gripping little thriller. Not high art, but very effective. I'd agree with labeling it "underrated."

 Re: The Negotiator
Not great by any means, but compulsively watchable. One of those films I can't help but stop at whenever I flick past it channel surfing.
