 Ricki and the Flash
Ricki and the Flash Quote: Ricki and the Flash is an upcoming American comedy-drama film directed by Jonathan Demme and written by Diablo Cody, about a woman who left her family to become a rock star, and later gets a chance to get everything back where it was. The film stars Meryl Streep, Mamie Gummer, Kevin Kline, Sebastian Stan, Rick Springfield, Audra McDonald, and Ben Platt. It will be the third film Streep and her real-life daughter Gummer have made together after 1986's Heartburn and 2007's Evening; also the third film Streep has appeared in alongside Kline, her co-star in Sophie's Choice and A Prairie Home Companion.
Principal photography began on October 13, 2014, in Rye, New York. TriStar Pictures is financing and will distribute the film on August 7, 2015.

 Re: Ricki and the Flash
It's incredibly lightweight and there's a lot more that could have been done with the plot (the first half focusing on Ricki's return home is easily the strongest), but this was surprisingly really enjoyable. Meryl Streep was great and I also highly enjoyed Kevin Kline's supporting turn. It's a nice and heartwarming crowdpleaser. B+

 Re: Ricki and the Flash
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. The movie still has its problems, like how it forgets the daughter for an entire act, and the reception at the ending with the stuffy white people was cringe worthy and comes out of nowhere (you see, Ricki is not your typical mother guys, she's a free spirit). But when the film is with Streep, Kline and Gummer, the movie really clicks.

I could also watch Diablo Cody dance for hours.

Yeah, I quite enjoyed this despite it's shortcomings. Meryl's so great here.

 Re: Ricki and the Flash
The best thing about this movie is how lived in and realistic the character of Ricki/Linda comes across. I wouldn't attribute this to Diablo Cody's fine if unremarkable screenplay, but instead Meryl Streep adding another wonderful performance to her filmography. B

 Re: Ricki and the Flash
This is pretty standard stuff, but very enjoyable nontheless. The gay brother felt forced though. Sort of like they had a gay character quota to fill, as he really added nothing to the movie. But otherwise I liked it.
