Kill Me Three Times

This is a very fun 90 minutes. Simon Pegg convincingly plays a contract killer. Alice Braga is utterly gorgeous. Teresa Palmer is sexy. Liam Hemsworth is a piece of meat only here because of his brothers' fame. And Bryan Brown is a treat for 80s film fans. The film is slightly over-edited, but it all plays out in the end in what is a cutthroat, bloodthirsty black comedy. The star of the show is Simon Pegg (despite being a "and Simon Pegg" addition to the opening credits), different than you've ever seen him before, and clearly loving it. His lines are delivered with real joy at playing a villain. I would love to see him play more roles like this, and it is possible as long as it's in jovial crime comedies like this.

Kill Me Three Times never tries to be clever. It is the simple tale of fraud, deception, adultery, and a man for hire. I don't quite understand how the title relates to the film besides the link of the word "kill" and the fact that people die in the film, but I don't think it matters too much. It is shot well, has a cool score, and has some lovely scenery of the Australian coast. The cinematography is not unique, but it is good, and I loved how it is always so bright, which is in such contrast to the unfolding plot, but also just refreshing to observe, showing off the beauty that we know Australia has to offer. Loved it.

B+
