 A Clockwork Orange A Clockwork Orange Quote: A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 darkly satirical science fiction film adaptation of Anthony Burgess's 1962 novel A Clockwork Orange. The film concerns Alex (Malcolm McDowell), a charismatic, psychopathic delinquent whose pleasures are classical music (especially Beethoven), rape, and ultra-violence. He leads a small gang of thugs (Pete, Georgie, and Dim), whom he calls his droogs (from the Russian друг, “friend”, “buddy”). The film tells the horrific crime spree of his gang, his capture, and attempted rehabilitation via a controversial psychological conditioning technique. Alex narrates most of the film in Nadsat, a fractured, contemporary adolescent argot comprising Slavic (especially Russian), English, and Cockney rhyming slang.
This cinematic adaptation was produced, directed, and written by Stanley Kubrick. It features disturbing, violent images, to facilitate social commentary about psychiatry, youth gangs, and other contemporary social, political, and economic subjects in a dystopian, future Britain. A Clockwork Orange features a soundtrack comprising mostly classical music selections and Moog synthesizer compositions by Wendy Carlos. A notable exception is “Singin’ in the Rain”, chosen because it was a song whose lyrics actor Malcolm McDowell knew. The now-iconic poster of A Clockwork Orange, and its images, were created by designer Bill Gold. The film also holds the record in the Guinness World Records for being the first movie in media history using the Dolby Sound system.

For a film that was released in 1971, this has held up the test of time in terms of the art production and set designs (With a few exceptions). The film is very interesting to look at.
I saw the film for the first time last night, and I have to say that maybe besides 2001, this was Kubrick's best film (I have yet to watch Full Metal Jacket). I was expecting something actually worthy of an X rating, but this didn't seem even close to that (Even for 1971). The film didn't really seem to be graphically violent, and the nudity wasn't graphic, so I'm not so sure why this wasn't R to begin with.

The bizarre masterpiece. The first 30min or so really just had my jaw dropped at how freaked out the movie was, I didnt know what the hell I was watching but after that I just loved every minute, it was an incredible movie. Kubrick's best imo

And i would like to say after seeing it again that its a crap film,the first time i saw it i found it interesting but after seeing it 2 times this past week i have to say its downright bad.

I'm still not sure if I have a firm grasp on any of the film's implications, but nonetheless, I do love it.
It's one of the most bizzare - yet enlightening - film experiences I've ever had. It left me reeling, but after seeing it, I felt like I'd actually done something important in upping my level of film buffery.
