Project A: Part II is a masterclass in timing, stunts, movement, and dialogue. It might be Chan's best work, rivaling Police Story: Supercop, Rumble in the Bronx, Operation Condor: Armour of God II, and Jackie Chan's First Strike. What I also love about it its setting; Hong Kong in the 1800s. The marine police versus pirates, but this time Yuen Biao and Sammo Hung are not in the film, which, in a strange way, I actually preferred. It means more Chan screen time, which is all I want from Chan at this golden age of his career. Seriously, this is Chan's prime; the late 80s. This, Dragons Forever, Police Story 2, and Armour of God all released within a three-year span. The early 90s became his second golden age, let's say...his platinum age, with such masterpieces of Hong Kong action/comedy cinema as City Hunter, the aforementioned Supercop and Operation Condor, and also Crime Story and Twin Dragons.

Project A: Part II is also very funny, not only when borrowing from Buster Keaton and the Marx Brothers (in fact, that is the scene that sticks in my mind as very clever). But it is neat to see Chan appreciate Western talent and not be afraid to use it himself.

A

Post Re: Project A: Part II
Project A: Part II features a comically overly complex story with pirates, revolutionaries, loyalists, mafia, crooked cops and the sea marines. Despite this complexity it all comes together quite well by the end, though don't mistake this period piece as a stuffy drama, it's an old school Hong Kong slapstick kung-fu comedy. Jackie Chan is great, it's always a treat to see the master at work. *A*
