De Behandeling [The Treatment]
De Behandeling [The Treatment]Quote: Inspector Nick Cafmeyer seems to have it all - looks, brains and a successful career. But a dark cloud hangs over his life: since the age of nine, he has been haunted by the unsolved disappearance of his younger brother, Bjorn. Plettinckx, a known sex offender, was questioned but quickly released. Plettinckx lives close by and takes fiendish pleasure in harassing Nick. Then, when a disturbing case comes to light involving a missing nine-year-old, Nick heads a massive search which turns into a relentless manhunt.

De Behandeling
Superb film. I wouldn't say it's too hard core, though. But it is haunting. It reminded a lot of Wallander and Män som Hatar Kvinnor in its colour palette, general aesthetic, and pace. In fact, I feel, especially in the UK, that this would be shown on TV as a two-part, late night drama, not as a feature-length film in cinemas. The main detective (played by Geert Van Rampelberg) is pretty great. He's intense (as is the film in general) and wound up to the max - he's authoritative and direct, I loved it. The end is a dark one. For it to have been worse (by which I mean better as a film) it would have needed more eerie paedophile shit to occur, which it doesn't. But the film is definitely a thrilling and utterly gripping experience. The score is powerful, and the film unravels like the best European thrillers do; slow, building momentum, brimming with mystery and twists. Great stuff indeed.

So at least one of my suggestions has paid off The main twist of the fathers being forced to sodomize their sons is so utterly fucked up.

But it's handled well. I didn't think it was disgusting or anything. But the idea of that, sure, it is repugnant.
