A solid low-budget horror drama co-produced by Lucky McKee (May). It is set amidst a woodlands cult who sacrifice people to "the pit" in return for health and prosperity. The heroine is a pregnant teenage girl who discovers she is the next intended sacrifice and schemes to survive. It is a very short film--around 75 minutes sans end credits--and I believe they could have developed many of the characters and ideas more, but the storyline is riveting and the rural atmosphere potent. A solid companion piece to another (and superior) 2013 film, We Are What We Are, and an obvious disciple of The Wicker Man and Shirley Jackson's short story The Lottery.
