A tranquil film that chronicles the end of a relationship.

Post Re: The Future
It all starts when Jason and Sophie, a couple in their fourth year of relationship, decides it is time to adopt a wounded stray cat they previously rescued. They are told by the animal shelter the cat will not be ready for another month. The wait time gives the couple an idea to break away from their lives. She quits her job as a dance teacher for kids and plans to start a Youtube project "30 Days 30 Dances". He leaves his home-bound IT customer service work and volunteers to go door-to-door to sell trees for an environmental group. A break from their routine invites new experiences for both characters, one of which includes a new romantic adventure for Sophie. This is when the movie changes from a lighthearted tone to a more serious one.

While the Miranda July (who also plays Sophie) film has some Spike Jonze's moments (the talking cat, Jason's timestopper), it is more grounded in reality than some of Jonze's films. I like its ambivalent feelings toward the end of the relationship. It is sobbing the relationship will eventually be remembered as a four-year fling, but it also signals a beginning of something.
