The concert footage is state of the art and the real world concert staging is incredible. The band's and the audience's energy is amazing. I'm going to have to make a point of seeing their live show next time they come to Xatar.

The non-concert cut scenes were certainly odd, but they gave the film a kind of retro 70's concert film vibe - - they also broke the concert footage up nicely, especially given the similarity between most of Metallica's songs. Don't get me wrong, I like their music and they are an impressively tight band, but I suppose you have to be a bigger fan than me to appreciate the differences between many of their tunes.

And even I... a well known anti-3D advocate, found it to be unobtrusive here - - though I did see it in true IMAX which has always been kinder to 3D. (Not to mention the perfect IMAX sound system.)
