i was expecting an Iron Sky like goofy dark sci-fi dark comedy from this movie without a wikipedia page. Instead I got the scariest film I've seen since [REC]. It takes a little while to get going, but I needed that time to get over it being a serious movie. The found footage genre has been abused many a time, yet movies like this, Rec and last years Chronicle prove that they can be brilliant if done right. Frankenstein's Army comes up with some very unique uses of the techniques.
Only time I can remember the camera man also being one of the antagonists.
The creatures are created from nerd fantasies and nightmares. They move like the Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth and sound like the clickers from Last of Us. They are blind which leads to moments of incredible tension. Some of them are more mechanical, some even look like Big Daddy's from Bioshock. They all freaked me out though. Even without the effective jump scares (there aren't many but they are great when they happen) it would still have been a frightening movie.
So a brilliant effort from first time director Richard Raaphorst. A must watch for any fan of horror.
