Post Re: Sunlight Jr.
It was solid, but disappointing. I guess because I loved Sherrybaby I was expecting a bit more from this one, but it felt pretty hollow to me. Nothing really of note happens in the film and it has several moments where it could potentially go in great, interesting directions but squanders them. This isn't to discredit the performances - which are all great. I could watch Naomi Watts in anything, and this film is no exception. She's fantastic. Matt Dillon is also great in a sensitive supporting turn, and Tess Harper is effective as well. It could have been great with a tighter script and a clearer focus, but it ends up being a decent if unspectacular indie. It also has the now cliched-as-hell 'indie' ending where a lot is left up in the air, which annoyed me. Not every film of this type needs to do that. B-/C+
