Quote:
Sudden Impact is a 1983 American crime thriller and the fourth film in the Dirty Harry series, directed by Clint Eastwood (making it the only Dirty Harry film to be directed by Eastwood himself), and starring Eastwood and Sondra Locke. The film is notable for the catchphrase, "Go ahead, make my day", which is uttered by Clint Eastwood's character in the beginning of the film.

Post Re: Sudden Impact
This is an interesting chapter in the Dirty Harry series. Maybe because it was originally a film starring Sandra Locke that was then turned into a Dirty Harry film, as a result the movie is split up into to main stories: One very dark with Locke's character hunting down the main an madam that raped her and her sister (Leaving her comatose) and a more entertaining lighter tale of Dirty Harry being a target by the mob after killing their boss, and he continuously stops their attacks and kills them in entertaining fashion. Eastwood is much older in this one as 7 years have passed since the last, but he is still great as Harry here, though his scenes do border on parody. Eastwood's direction has also welcome here. The action scenes are a little more modern, and the film itself is shot really well. Only real problem is Locke's story isn't bad, in fact it's actually quite sad, and you can't wait for the villains in this one to be offed, they are truly awful people. It's just so dark that it doesn't mesh when Harry gets involved. As a result the story has some pacing issues, and the end is a little too dark, and Harry is kind of absent from most of it. I think one more rewrite could have made this just as great as the others, but this one still has a lot going for it (The Go Ahead, make my day makes Harry's entrance into the 80s a welcome return)

B+
