Street Fighter
Street FighterQuote: Street Fighter is a 1994 American action film written and directed by Steven E. de Souza. It is based loosely on the same-titled video games produced by Capcom, and stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Raúl Juliá, along with supporting performances by Byron Mann, Damian Chapa, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na and Wes Studi.
The film altered the plot of the original game and motives of the Street Fighter characters. It also significantly lightened the tone of the adaptation, inserting several comical interludes (for instance one particular fight scene between E. Honda and Zangief pays homage to the old Godzilla films).
The film was a commercial success, making approximately three times its production costs, but was universally panned by critics and fans of the video game series alike. However, Raúl Juliá's performance as General M. Bison was widely praised and garnered him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Saturn Awards. Julia, who at the time was suffering from stomach cancer (as evidenced by his pale and gaunt facial complexion throughout the movie), took the role at the request of his two children. This was Julia's final theatrical performance, and he died before the film's release. The film is dedicated to his memory.
Two video game tie-ins based on the film were released which used digitized footage of the actors performing fight moves, similar to the presentations in Pit-Fighter and the Mortal Kombat series of games.

Street Fighter
What's not to love? It's at least accurate to the game, which can't be said for most of Uwe Boll's movies (if critics are to be trusted). It has Van Damme as Guile, Raul Julia as M. Byson, everybody's favourite go-to Indian Wes Studi as Sagat, and Kylie Minogue as a new character, Cammy. They managed to create a story out of just fighting characters in a video game, and that's pretty impressive. It came out in 1994, when I was 8. This was made for me and my generation. I loved it. The action is unimagineable and gamey, it's fun and each character gets their own screentime. Ryu and Ken, being the most popular Streetfighter characters from the games, should have been played by more recogniseable names, though. Raul Julia really loves playing this role, you can tell. They even included Blanca, which is the funny part.

Re:
A rather terrible film, taking all things into consideration. Raul Julia is the only thing that makes this film even remotely tolerable, but it's just a completely campy, boring mess. I loved the video game, which was the first one that I ever bought with my own money as a kid (which was expensive for an 10 year old) and this did nothing for me as a fan. It's not even half as good as the first Mortal Kombat film, and that wasn't a very good film either. DAlgren wrote: and Kylie Minogue as a new character, Cammy. Cammy first appeared in the video games over a year before the film came out.

Oh, well, I guess I don't remember her then from the Streetfighter games that I used to play. I always did prefer Mortal Kombat, and the film for that was utter shit.

Re: Street Fighter
Mortal Kombat is still one of if not the best video game adaptation ever, this is absolute shit. I'd say Van Damme's worst film up til that point in his career, but that would be doing his DTV work injustice. This is truly one of the worst films ever made. Poor Raul Julia.
