I watched this film a lot as a child. Selleck is pretty funny in this movie. Having grandparents with similar illnesses I can see why lampooning it made get savaged by critics. But for the most part it's pretty funny at times. Don Ameche's performance is pretty straightforward and even though it's played for laughs I think he does a very good job in it.
