Quote:
The Lords of Flatbush is a 1974 American drama film about a street gang in leather jackets from the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York.

Directed by Martin Davidson and Stephen Verona, The Lords of Flatbush is a low budget film starring Perry King, Henry Winkler and Sylvester Stallone. Stallone was also credited with writing additional dialogue.

A portion of this film was shot in Stamford, Connecticut. The wedding scenes were filmed in an area of town called Cove on Dale Street. School scenes were shot at Abraham Lincoln High School in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn.

Richard Gere was originally cast in this movie but, after coming to blows with Sylvester Stallone, was given his walking papers by the director.

The Lords of Flatbush

I remember the trailer music, "The Lords of Flatbush is a mooo-ooooo-vie, duh duh duh duh", and that is what I remember more about this movie than the actual movie itself. Although the movie is great to watch, it's a low budget (about $400k) production shot on 16mm, and it's not terribly great from a production angle, but it is great to see The Fonz' and Rocky Balboa on screen so young together. Sly is so hungry in this movie that he gives a fantastic performance as Stanley Rosiello, and it's full of that hard-man invulnerability that most punks have. They try to show off a hard image but are softies at heart, and Sly showcases that perfectly with this role. His acting in later years was never bad, but it just wasn't versatile like it was in his earlier performances like this one and Rocky, Paradise Alley and Victory.

Favourite part is in the pool hall when Stanley's been told by his girlfriend that she is pregnant. The moment hits Stanley and it's just so nice to watch him act. Then she theatens to tell his friends about how he cries when he cums. LOL. Great part.

The other guys in this are good too, and Susan Blakely here in her first role opposite Stallone, later to star again with him in Capone a few years later then Over the Top in 1987.

B+
