A courageous and fascinating exploration of an infamous Australian serial murder case, though it may prove too disturbing for many. The film depicts how one dangerous man's charisma and other factors (from intolerance to the absence of social mobility) contributed to and resulted in an incredible string of violence. Every frame rings true. The performances, delivered by first-time actors for the most part, are convincing and never artificial. The nightmare-inducing content is handled with respect, but also very bluntly. The atmosphere is claustrophobic, almost apocalyptic; one can sense the world closing in on these people. The Snowtown Murders is well worth seeing for those who can see it through.
