Re: Ruby Sparks
I rather enjoyed it, although one of the scenes near the end really disturbed me for some reason.

Re: Ruby Sparks
A flimsy variation on Adaptation. and Stranger Than Fiction. Other than one fascinating and frightening scene near the end, Zoe Kazan's screenplay never finds interesting ways to explore its novel conceit. Instead, it goes through the motions of mediocre broad humor (Antonio Banderas and Annette Bening, perhaps the worst comic duo ever) and bland sentimental drama. Charlie Kaufman, she isn't. The film flirts with deconstructing or at least lampooning pictures such as Garden State in which a free-spirited, troubled girl inspires the spiritual redemption of an aching male protagonist, but it ends up just being another example of the cliché. A slight example with a super bogus ending. Real-life couple Kazan and Paul Dano's chemistry brings a few scenes to vivid life, but the film's a mild bore overall.

RUBY SPARKS - 7/10 ( B- )
A cute if unspectacular movie. Really enjoyed Zoe Kazan in it though. Makes me want to watch (500) Days of Summer again.

Re: Ruby Sparks
I really really liked this. Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan (why isn't she in more films?) are fantastic and the film has the right mix of comedy and drama to make it an intriguing adventure. I feared the ending would be different than it ended up being but I feel the ending helped the film even more.
