 Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Quote: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a 2012 American action fantasy horror film based on the 2010 mashup novel of the same name. The film was directed and co-produced by Timur Bekmambetov, along with Tim Burton. The novel's author, Seth Grahame-Smith, wrote the adapted screenplay. The real-life figure Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States (1861–1865), is portrayed in the novel and the film as having a secret identity as a vampire hunter. Filming began in Louisiana in March 2011 and the film was released in 3D on June 20, 2012 in the United Kingdom and June 22, 2012 in the United States.

The film was never going to be perfect but it is passable entertainment with some fun performances from the cast. **1/2

 Re: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Is it a straight action film through and through? Or is there still a strong horror vein (atmosphere, suspense) running through it? Is it closer in feel to Sleepy Hollow or Van Helsing?

It is mostly straight action film but the horror suspense builds up as the film progresses into Lincoln's time as president.

 Re: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
It's pretty boring. The only exciting part of the film was the train sequence at the end, and at that point I was well over the film. Fun idea, but pretty average execution.

 Re: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Heh! Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is one exhilarating alt-history action flick. I hadn't even imagined I'd imagine I'd write that sentence, but there it is - - this is a most enjoyable gallop through the 19th century from the POV of one of it's most famous citizens. With it's outstanding art direction and stylishly blended cgi, one can truly begin to believe this wild tale. I mean the horse chase alone had to be one of the most imaginatively frenetic ones ever designed. And, of course, Lincoln's weapon of choice! ...especially it's first hidden feature - - too much!!! The non-star actors were solidly transparent - - allowing their characters to veritably glow with veracity. Now that's how to make a movie! 382 out of 5. Can't wait for the sequel teased at the very end...

Don't you mean Obama: Vampire Hunter? The dude at the end is African American and in a modern bar.

 Re: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
After hearing the bad reviews, I went it with fairly low expectations and ended up being pleasantly surprised. I never thought they'd make a movie with this high of production value after reading the book, so I definitely give the studio credit to give this kind of picture $65 million to work with. BThey left out of the best twist at the end of the book though - Abe lives in the present day as a vampire!

Thank-you, but I'm going to stick with my interpretation - - however, here's a scoop via the original novel's author... Time Magazine: Spoiler Alert: Who is the 'Vampire Hunter' at the End of Abraham Lincoln?Of course, others may have different ideas...

JFK is a rather avant-garde interpretation considering it's a black man. You must have been influenced by the new Lana Del Rey video.

 Re: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Oh, wow: it's him? This feels so strange. Why was I so certain he was black, lol? The ending of the novel--with a vampire Abe and Henry watching Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech--still sounds much cooler than this generic, vague throwaway.

I had fun with it, but it's not a good movie.

 Re: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
It's fun up to a point. Then the end plays out in the most bland and boring of ways and decides to take itself way too seriously. It also didn't help that Bekmambetov decided to shoot everything on top of the train in slow motion while mixing in CGI steam making that whole scene practically impossible to enjoy.

 Re: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
The previews had me worried this movie was going to take itself way too seriously. I'm glad I was wrong! One of the goofiest I've ever seen and alot of fun.
