Boring, lame, not scary, and only intermittently cute. As undeniably charming as Kelly McGillis may be, Pat Healy was so irritating I wanted to punch him.

I really liked this. It's slower-paced but never boring, IMO. The characters were interesting and the atmosphere is great. I liked it better than West's "House of the Devil."

8/10 (B+)

i have a chance to see this in a theatre this week. some of my friends tell me that this is an excellent must-see experience. i'm bumping this because i'm curious how horror movie buffs like dr. lecter or the dark shape like this movie.

I like it a lot, but the expectations need to be right. Have you seen any other Ti West film? It's very slow burn horror mixed with indie comedy. Don't expect a real shocker, though. The two actors are really good and have great chemistry. Sara Paxton is insanely cute in this.

B+ range for me.

The Innkeepers

Very good film. It's light on scares, with about 4 or 5 main scares, but the whole thing is just very well made and I liked it a lot. I was invested in the characters, and because there were only a few characters, it made that investment mean more in the end. Plus, the script is pretty fantastic. It's an unconventional ghost story, probably made for teenagers (much like The Others was), but it takes nothing away from how good it is. Nothing really happens (apart from character building) in the first half, and I never got shit-scared, but I was spooked throughout and especially at the end. Sara Paxton is really good.

Ti West has got my attention. I'm waiting to see what he can produce next.

B+

i thought this was pretty much the only american horror movie in the last 1 or 2 years that was worth watching, or rather, that was worth being made in the first place. with the budget of the terrible cabin in the woods, a boring piece of shit that thought it was above the genre, ti west could make 25 good mvies. thats really a shame.
