The film is loosely based on true events surrounding the torture and murder of Sylvia Likens by Gertrude Baniszewski during the summer of 1965.

Re: The Girl Next Door (2007) Almost completely without any merit, artistic or otherwise. Badly acted, badly directed, badly scripted, and terribly disturbing to boot. Avoid at all costs.

Re: The Girl Next Door (2007) I didn't hate it. I didn't think it was badly made, but it's an extremely disturbing film and very hard to watch. If you're only going to see one movie about this crime though it should be An American Crime.
