 The Rum Diary The Rum Diary Quote: The Rum Diary is a 2011 film based on the novel of the same name by Hunter S. Thompson. The film is directed by Bruce Robinson and stars Johnny Depp. Filming began in Puerto Rico in March 2009. It was released on October 28, 2011. It marks Robinson's first film as director in nineteen years, his prior film being Jennifer 8, released in 1992.

I really hate these types of films. They just glamourise alcohol and drugs, and are really lazily made with no real plot at all. It's just one man's drunken holiday in Puerto Rico. Depp plays the same person he plays in all movies, a drunk, startled, weird man. He was really bad in it. He's a really bad actor, and the film wouldn't have missed his presence in the slightest.
Aaron Eckhart was good, as was the brilliant Richard Jenkins, who basically carried this movie, and if he wasn't there it would be total shite. He had the best lines and they were delivered with great comic timing. Amber Heard was pointless. The direction of this film was shockingly bad and the sound was awful. This is just as bad as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, in my opinion. Johnny Depp getting drunk and not doing much. The only thing that changed was the location.

Re: The Rum Diary A very bad film. There's nothing worth mentioning in it so i just stop at this point (this one >) .
