Re: Last Night (2010)
Sadly, Last Night was a more interesting idea for a movie than an actually interesting movie.
Of course, the opportunity to see the actor extraordinairé Keira Knightley. She's always worth the price of admission. She's on the A-team in this film - - her and Guillaume Canet. Unfortunately, the B-team, though ably manned by Eva Mendes, or should I say womanned by Eva Mendes, has a flat fourth wheel: Sam Worthington - - Yow! They really shouldn't put him in with real actors, it's embarrassing. If he practices real hard for the next couple years, he might be ready to convincingly play one of the puppets in the sequel to Team America - - he's that "good"!
So while the semi-tedium of this movie played on, I had the luxury of the time to imagine a much better movie. Luckily tonight was much better than Last Night.
2 out of 5.
(Higher if you count the inspiration...'.)

I enjoyed this and loved all the performances. The storyline between Keira Knightley and Guilliame Canet was infinitely more interesting than the Worthington/Mendes subplot though. But I thought Knightley in particular was fantastic. B+

Re: Last Night (2010)
A standard-issue American-made infidelity drama in many respects: one character's in "real estate," almost everyone else is a writer, they're all beautiful, and every set could easily double as pornography for Architectural Digest subscribers. Movie lives, I guess you could say. Sadness is no reason to not be posh and divine. Yet I found myself drawn in by the strong central performances, particularly Keira Knightley and Guillaume Canet's, and the deep sense of melancholy pervading every scene. By the end, despite the icy exterior and faux-indie posturing, I cared, and what a nicely calibrated, satisfying-yet-upsetting ending it is.

That's what I think of every time I hear about this movie, too.
