Deeply thematic, but also too simplistic, too heavy-handed, and too easy. Though it's not as offensive as stuff like Crash or Babel, it's still rather silly. So, in that way, it's a perfect Foreign Language Oscar winner!

The English-language title really makes no sense at all, too. Poor translation.

Oh, those gorgeous, blue-eyed Danes and their capacity for forgiveness and healing. ;) The movie definitely feels a bit overly schematic and busy--the scenes in Africa in and of themselves are compelling, but don't mesh with the overall film very well--but it's also extremely well-acted, attractively shot, and pretty poignant. The type of movie Miramax would have released in the '90s: an air of sophistication, a high-gloss aesthetic, a feel-bad-to-feel-good message, impeccably acted, undeniably a bit mushy.
