Charlie St. Cloud is an upcoming fantasy-romance film based on the 2004 Ben Sherwood novel, The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud. The film is directed by Burr Steers and stars Zac Efron and Amanda Crew. The story is of Charlie St. Cloud's choice between keeping a promise he made to his brother, who died in a car accident, or going after the girl he loves.

I can't recommend Charlie St. Cloud...

...but it sure was a weird boat trip nonetheless - - it's a Crash Jr. meets Ghost dance floor remix kinda movie.

What with the acutely odd cameos by Ray Liotta and Kim Basinger; and then of course, who can forget the intense violent accidents which befall our beloved main characters; and Zac (!) himself - - damn it, if that guy isn't mesmerizing!!! - - he's loaded for bear with charm; plus the frumpily sexy Amanda Crew, WOW, after her brilliant turn in the under-appreciated Sex Drive, I can cut her some slack; and finally... how about that crazy ass story! That was really somethin', huh?!! Woo Wee!!!

Yep - - Charlie St. Cloud is way, way out there (WWOT).

Not being a believer in better than even odds in the long run, I define WWOT in this film to be any or all of the three big "i"'s: insanity, idiocy, or igotism.

2 out of 5.

Zac is sooo cute and hot, in every scene and every angle. Okay okay, cuteness & handsomeness don't make a good movie. But it sure did entertain me (hehehehe). Acting and screenplay weren't so bad. But who cares.

CHARLIE ST. CLOUD - 4/10 (D+)

You know, I'm not ashamed to admit that Zac Efron has potential as an actor. He can be very charismatic at times. But his performance in "St. Cloud" doesn't do him any favors. Most of the problem though is due to a muddled script, complete with schmaltzy, cringe-inducing dialogue. The whole thing felt so phony to me, and on top of that it's just plain boring. Couldn't wait for this one to be over.
