Lymelife: Ly Me Life :(

Yep, it's that depressing.

Such serious Seventies psychoanalysis of suburbia seeks seldom seen scenes to secure secrets shown.

The acting was solid and unexpected throughout. The Culkins go without saying - - the name brand almost always works in a pinch! Emma Roberts, the ever stalwart journeyman actor - - ever since Nancy Drew, I've know she's destined for greatness (aka: ozka!). Then, Jill Hennessey, who always seemed to transcend her self-imposed TV purgatorial prison, acts older than her age - - just the opposite of most actresses her age - - and to fine effect! And finally, the oldtimers... Alec Baldwin and Timothy Hutton show that they haven't forgotten how to really act - - at least on rare occasions like this...

The story was enthralling. I tried to resist it's narrative charms, yet it drew me in - - inexorably! The first time director (Derick Martini) kept a nice flat tone throughout the whole affair. Flatness is a truly rare perspective in the land of Hollywood exaggeration, and it brings a welcome depth to Lymelife.

But finally, you just need to look in the mirror, and ask yourself: 'Have I been infected?'...

  :) out of   :) :towel:

Lymelife is a strong drama with strong performances across the board. Set in 1979 Rhode Island, the film follows the Bartlett film as the marriage between Mickey and Brenda (Alec Baldwin & Jill Hennessy) is falling apart over the past few years especially with Mickey cheating on Brenda with family friend, Melissa Bragg (Cynthia Nixon). The Bartlett's sons Scott and Jimmy (Rory & Kieran Culkin) try to deal with the downfall but the entire family is experiencing troubles from left to right. During the entire process, Scott tries to build a relationship with longtime friend Adrianna Bragg (Emma Roberts). Even their relationship reaches some hardships along the way. Even though the plot is a bit depressing, the film does have some hopeful points throughout that can be appreciated especially by the performances across the board. The two standouts of the film would be Rory Culkin and Emma Roberts. It's a strong first entry for director Derick Martini and a good film overall. ***
