Re: Bride Wars
Admittedly, it wasn't bad. Maybe it's because I love Anne Hathaway far to much but I didn't feel assulted. Is over the top, cliched, generic, dumb, insulting to women a bit, etc... but when you look past all those great great qualities, it's sometimes an enjoyable movie. I have a soft spot for these "war" movies. Also though I would have rather seen it be Emily Blunt VS Anne Hathaway because that would have been much more interesting, since with Kate Hudson it just feels like HTLGITD 2. C+. I wasn't mentally raped, it's not that bad.

Re: Bride Wars
Yeah, so it's just not very good. I guess the filmmakers intended the audience to like Liv and Emma, but they just come across as ridiculous children for most of the movie. The screenplay is juvenile and over-the-top. Anne Hathaway fares much better than Kate Hudson, who looks haggard and dead-eyed throughout. Hudson often has the ability to be effervescent but something is amiss in this film; Hathaway, on the other hand, at least shows signs of a pulse. Candice Bergen just looks bored in a variation on her Miss Congeniality/Sweet Home Alabama characters, Kristen Johnston mugs embarrassingly, and none of the other supporting players register, least of all the laughably inconsequential groom characters. There are a couple of laughs here and there but Bride Wars misses the mark. It had potential to be a funny depiction of Bridezillas but the PG rating, ridiculous script, and lifeless acting doom it to be nothing more than a highly forgettable chick flick. C-

Jesus, Libs, we all knew you'd be seeing this nightmare before the weekend was out, but already? It's four o'clock on Friday!

About how I'm not working this school year because I'm extremely unsatisfied with the administration at the school I was at? I'm taking a year off and being an individual tutor, I've been offered a position at another school for next year.

Re: Bride Wars
On an unrelated note, I noticed that filmlover posted a review of this film (with the exact same grade, no less) 13 minutes after I did mine.
You know, I think the whole "stealing reviews" bit is done away with, but that kind of weird timing that seems to occur too often is kind of strange.

Disappointing. That's not the smoking gun I was looking for.
But I intend to look through more of this so-called filmlovers stuff at this filmgasm place.

He saw it at 12:15. And he liked the supporting cast, which, im too lazy to scroll up, I don't think you did Libs. It's just a little bit ironic though.

Yeah, I'm not saying there's anything to it. I just find it bizarre how much it always seems like there could be, you know, something to it.

Re: Bride Wars
It's hardly that shocking an accusation. We all saw it happen last time, although, to filmhater's credit, he seems to have cleaned up the direct plagiarism act of his.

Re: Bride Wars
You know a chick flick must be terrible when Libs/filmlover dislikes it. She bleeds romance comedy out of her ears.

C- So it deserves the lowly 12% Rottentomatoes score? And what's with that poster? They don't look to be "at war" with anything.

Re: Bride Wars
Why anyone would want to waste their time stealing someone else's review of this turd is beyond me. Especially if you were unfortunate enough to waste 90 minutes of your life actually sitting through this pandering, demeaning, insulting mess of a movie. This is without a doubt Hathaway's worst film to date. Its a shame more people will probably see this than Rachel Getting Married which was a fantastic film. As for this one stay away, stay far far away.

Mediocre piece of shit. Bland characters. Poor direction. Awful script. Would have worked if it was remotely plausible.

Re: Bride Wars
Okay, this is nowhere near as bas as License to Wed, but it's getting there.
The character, despite them being hot, are not particulary likable. Kate was not even likable at the beginning when she is the supposed friend of Anne. The PG rating just dumb the whole thing down. The script did not work because, like LtW, too many cop out excuses for gags.
Grade - C-.

Re: Bride Wars
I'm shocked it did not make me want to kick puppies. Its predictable fluff that does the job and dare I say the comebacks in the scene where they finally go to "war" are pretty great.
We will avoid the fact it paints women as utterly insane!
