Re: Gomorra
Hmm, comes out February 13 here, but I'm not sure how many theaters it will get. Hopefully at least 3 or 400 so I can see it. Looks great.

Re: Gomorra
7/10 -> B-
Well filmed and well played movie, but unfortunately doesn't have a soul of its own. During the whole running time I never cared for any of the characters, I was never thrilled, never worried, never anything. I was more touched by the hard core facts in the end than for anything that came before them.
It's a necessary movie. This would be better if it were a doc though. But I understand that the mafia and the families involved would not be so welcoming at filming their situation, so I'll say it again - it's a necessary movie.
Not worth all of the hoopla.

I completely agree. I don't know about you, but when watching it, I thought tht it probably makes for a better book than a movie. It was probably never supposed to be turned into a film that is not a documentary.

Re: Gomorra
I knew it was based on a book, but I thought it was fiction. I googled a bit now and it's actually a non-fiction book. Which definitely explains some things I mentioned I didn't like.
And yeah - it probably works better as a book rather than a movie.

Re: Gomorra
I had a chance to see either this or The Class while in LA, sounds like I made the right choice.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Re: Gomorra
Well, that's two in a row... Gomorra is the second movie this week, after Duplicity, that I admired, but didn't love. As a matter of fact, I didn't even really like Gomorra. I found the style alienating as opposed to involving (as I hope it was intended to be). I found myself wishing it had just been told in a plain ol' straightforward docudrama style. If it was remade with the exact same actors, I would love to see that version in an alternative reality. ...however, as it stands, I'm restricted to just this one intratemporal dimension at the moment, so I'll withhold judgement for now to that which is before us... As much as I understand what the director was shooting for here, the execution of this film leaves much to be desired... out of

Re: Gomorra
I was so horribly bored watching Gomorra a few months ago...
For me it just worked as a documentary with lay actors, but still very dreary. Pretty lenghty, it didn't have any clear structure from start to finish. At least Gomorra didn't win an oscar.
D - 5/10

At least it wasn't nominated for one.
