How disappointing. An excellent cast and a promising director fail to make an engaging drama. Instead this is a pedestrian, stale and underwritten film, marked by performances which mostly fail to hit the right note. Jennifer Connelly mostly overacting here, while Joaquin Phoenix gives a soulless performance. Mark Ruffalo is solid though and does well with a difficult part. Mira Sorvino is completely wasted. D+
