An above-average horror film that succeeds thanks to strong direction and solid performances. It's been done many times before, but it's often incredibly creepy and still manages to get under your skin. It's a treat for gore fans as well, proving to be one of the bloodiest films I've seen in recent memory. I thought it was incredibly atmospheric and I loved the impending sense of dread that was developed early on. Like a similar Aussie horror flick Wolf Creek (which I loved), this one takes its time to develop its characters and establish tension. The second act is when it just goes crazy. The strongest performance in the cast comes from Leigh Whannell, but everyone else is quite good as well. Definitely worth checking out. B+

I think the best description of the movie would be that it's an Australian cross between Wrong Turn and...well, I think Wrong Turn suffices. Unlike that film, however, it doesn't really deliver on either the gore aspect or the tension aspect. The beginning part is really dry and it drags. Once the shit hits the fan, there's some excitement here and there and I liked the film's overall very bleak tone, but some annoying characters and the lack of some really noteworthy gory scenes made this rather a disappointment in my eyes. I certainly hoped for more here.
