La règle du jeu [The Rules of the Game]
The Rules of the GameQuote: The Rules of the Game (original French title: La Règle du jeu) is a 1939 French film directed by Jean Renoir about upper-class French society just before the start of World War II. Renoir's film is in part an adaptation of Alfred de Musset's Les Caprices de Marianne, a popular 19th-century comedy of manners; Renoir takes the film far beyond the pleasantries of a typical comedy of manners, creating instead a biting and tragic satire that captured the frenetic emotions of France on the cusp of World War II.
The Rules of the Game is often cited as one of the greatest films in the history of cinema. A poll of critics by the Sight & Sound magazine in 2002, placed it behind Citizen Kane and Vertigo.

I agree. This is a good film with great direction, but I honestly find it kind of overrated. And Grand Illusion is much better. B

It takes awhile to get going, but the climax is certainly terrific. I also prefer Grand Illusion, though.

Pretty much, like, the greatest film ever made, I mean maybe not literally, but yeah pretty much like literally. I can honestly only think of one film I've seen that I distinctly prefer, and a couple others in the same level I guess. It's hilarious, depressing, desolate, joyful, exciting, ingenious, frightening, and goddamn beautiful. It's impossible to describe my passion for this film.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Pretty disappointing. Far too much silliness for my taste.
