It's quite a bit better than its predecessor, and that's almost entirely because it puts the sex talk on the back burner and lets these characters have a story. There's a rich family dynamic developed (two, actually) and the relationships feel natural and genuine without being too boring. Arcand is a skilled director, too, as the opening shot shows, and there's a sly sense of humour which pervades the whole piece. It goes a bit sappy towards the end, but it's mostly pretty restrained while being quite moving.
