This Spanish post-apocalypse sci-fi-horror caught me off guard in how surprisingly good it was. Now there's not much new in this flick, but the way the plot is presented and the resolution at the end are imaginative and given the likely small budget, very well-crafted.

The plot is your usual small band of survivors struggling to stay alive in a destroyed apocalyptic world after the so-called "Final War". The enemies are on the one side the infected "Strangers" (who are not so unsimilar to the infected from 28 Days Later) who turn you into one of them upon a simple touch and on the other, the so-called "invisibles" who arrive during the "cold hour" (hora fría) and are ghost-like creatures who freeze everything around them and are attracted by warmth. Most of the story is told from the viewpoint of an 8-year old boy who grows up in this world. The few adults try to infuse a sense of normalty into the circumstances by educating the boy and trying to just live a normal daily life, but of course it is just a matter of time the danger ctatches up with them.

There is little truly original about the film and it is not without its share of slow parts and underdeveloped characters, but on the whole, it is a very good genre effort with a couple of creative ideas, solid acting, suspenseful scenes throughout and an ending you won't forget too fast. I recommend to check it out!
