The Contract

Quote:
The Contract is a 2006 film directed by Bruce Beresford and written by the late television writer Stephen Katz and John Darrouzet. A cat-and-mouse thriller, The Contract stars Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman as assassin Frank Carden and John Cusack as teacher Ray Keene. Released directly to video in the United States and most of Europe, The Contract received little critical notice, despite its high-profile cast.

Was feeling a bit too lazy recently, but here you go.

Polls do suck though, maybe more attention would be spent on posts. :shades:

I know what you mean, but I think it's been better as of late. I just like the polls though because of the numbers and comparing them to the other films.

I'm not sure if this was ever released in theaters or not, but if not, it should have been. It's actually a really solid film with great performances from Morgan Freeman and John Cusack. I really enjoyed it.

It was playing in Paris while I was over there last month, but it never got a release in America.

Yeah, I definitely agree with Zingaling. People should rent it, it's definitely a rather well-made, all-around decent action-thriller. I've got no idea why it didn't get a theatrical release in the States considering it stars Morgan Freeman and John Cusack and is directed by the guy who made Driving Miss Daisy, Bruce Beresford. It's also better than another Beresford thriller, Double Jeopardy. It was released in German theatres, though.

Anyway, the movie is something like an inferior 3:10 to Yuma set in modern times with Freeman in Crowe's role as the charistmatic baddie (that is not THAT bad afterall) and John Cusack as the righteous man who wants to prove his son (and the rest of the world) that he has got balls. It's a pretty simple, yet effective set-up once again. Obviously, it's not as good as Yuma and not as well-acted either, but it offers a nice amount of action and tense scenes. Freeman is solid and Cusack is a surprisingly decent action guy.

Where the movie falters is its screenplay. Freeman's character just as an incredible amount of luck when it comes to surviving assassination attempts and Freeman's killer team seems rather armateur too in some scenes. With some more focused direction and a better screenplay it could have been a great action/thriller, but as it stands it's definitely worth of your time and it's better than many movies of the same genre released in theatres nowadays. Check it out!
