 Prince of Darkness
Prince of Darkness Quote: Prince of Darkness is a 1987 horror film directed, written, and scored by John Carpenter. The film is the second installment in what Carpenter calls his "Apocalypse Trilogy", which began with The Thing (1982) and concludes with In the Mouth of Madness (1995).

Great premise, but executed pretty badly by Carpenter, who takes way too much time before any suspense really gains.
With the exception of Donald Pleasance, almost every character is annoying and obviously not college students. However, there is a good atmosphere, it just hasnt aged well. But the last half hour is very much awesome and has the trademark Carpenter ending.
First 75 minutes- Aged badly, gets a C+ from me. However, very cool premise with Anti God, and all taht
Last act of the film- Kickass and completely edge of seat. Solid A
Overall, I'd give it a B. But it really is very good in the end, and the payoff is certainly there.

 Re: Prince of Darkness
Gun be correct, the premise is juicy the execution creaks worse then a bag of rusty spanners.
The whole idea of tying in the existence of Satan to a scientific explanation adds a novel layer of creepy but its hamstring by a screenplay with virtually all the tension torn out of it. Carpenter seems to resort to a lazy rehash of the score from The Thing when he needs to convey menace, and this is the only Carpenter film where his lo-fi production methods annoy me.
The inserts with the precognition of future events and the dark figure emerging from the church are the only scenes that emerge with credit. Oh and if the characters in this are really college students the average age for students in the USA must be 35.
