Quote:
Under Siege 2: Dark Territory is a 1995 American action film set on board a train traveling through the Rocky Mountains from Denver to Los Angeles. Directed by Geoff Murphy, it stars Steven Seagal as the ex-Navy SEAL, Casey Ryback and is the sequel to the 1992 film Under Siege also starring Seagal. The film was produced by Seagal along with Arnon Milchan and Steve Perry. The film's cast was made up of cameos and supporting roles by Everett McGill, Peter Greene, Kurtwood Smith and a young Katherine Heigl. Nick Mancuso, Andy Romano, and Dale Dye were the only other cast members besides Seagal to reprise their roles from the first film.

Oh man is this one trashy yet oddly enjoyable film.

The idea of having it on a train is bizarre and Seagal's girt had increased even more since the first one so a fatman throwing shapes didn't look very right.

That said there is fun to be had, Eric Bogosian puts on his best scenery chewing suit as the main villain and Katherine Heigl makes sure her teenage niece character doesn't grate to much. And of course the obligatory side kick is as lucky and goofy as required.

I wrote an thread on the ending of this movie once, but I can't find it. Its easily a terrible film, and the ending is just terrible.

After that stupid one sided fight between Segal and suppose badass of the film, he comes in and the guy rants how theres nothing to stop him. Segal then shoots him in the stomach and the computer destroying all the signals with the bady dying saying "Never thought about that" Then he falls out the window but manages to hang on. Then another train comes in smashes it. Segal goes flying, gets up and as the 100 mph train collapses on the other train, Segal runs through not One, Not Two, but Four or five train cars, leaps out right as it the two trains explode and he catches a helecopter ladder. He comes up and enters the helecopter and is about to close the door, when the guy he shot and was hanging on to the tracks, ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TRAIN, is now unexplainably hanging from the ladder. Segal then shuts the helecopter door on his fingers, cutting them off, and he falls into the worst CGI flames I've ever seen.

WOW, I've never rolled my eyes in agony over the course of what was 30 seconds of film.

D+ only because this movie is laughably bad, Thank god Segal kept bombing after this film.

What do you expect from the Director of other great sequels Fortress 2 and Young Guns 2

Going from Under Siege to Under Siege 2 is one of the most alarming slides in quality for a sequel I've ever seen, in film history.

I caught this at a drive-in when I was 10-ish. I liked it.

I randomly rented it a year or so ago. I still liked it. It's fine. Eric Bogosian is a riot.

Huge guilty pI know! But I can't help, but enjoy it. Eric Bogosian is really a riot and I find the whole film entertaining. Sometimes intentionally and at times unintentionally. It also has some good rewatchability to me (at least as far as Seagel flicks go).

He is so over the top and yet brilliant.

I can barely even remember Under Seige, and yet I still clearly remember the exhilaration of seeing Under Seige 2 just once 12 years ago -- it's an over the top thrill ride...

Under Siege 2

This is, and always has been, a great action movie with great rewatchability. Say what you like about Seagal now, but in this he was arguably at his best. This is better than Under Siege too, it's just too entertaining, and Eric Bogosian is a large part of that. He has two of the greatest lines, and two that me and my brother grew up quoting for laughs:

"Who's Casey-fucking-Ryback?"

and

"We know this, the Chinese know that we know, but we make believe that we don't know, and the Chinese make believe that they believe that we don't know . . . but know we know. Everybody knows."

Cracks me up every time. :funny:

Seagal's not half-bad either. The daughter (Katherine Heigl) and the supposed badass, Penn (Everett McGill) are not great, but I can forget them just as well as I forget the funny ending. I can only assume it's received a 34% RT score because it's a Seagal feature and critics like to bash the man (which I'm also guilty of), but trust me .. Under Siege 2 is a good, fun and nostalgic 102 minutes, and along with Marked for Death is his best work.

B+
