Chinjeolhan geumjassi [Sympathy for Lady Vengeance]
Sympathy for Lady VengeanceQuote: Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (Korean: 친절한 금자씨, Chinjeolhan geumjassi; "Kind-Hearted Ms. Geum-Ja") is a 2005 South Korean film by director Park Chan-wook. In North America and parts of Europe, the film has been screened under the title Lady Vengeance. The film is the third installment in Park's The Vengeance Trilogy, following Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) and Oldboy (2003). It stars Lee Young Ae as Lee Geum-ja, a woman released from prison after serving the sentence for a murder she did not commit. The film tells her story of revenge against the real murderer.
The film debuted on July 29, 2005 in South Korea, and competed for the Golden Lion at the 62nd Venice International Film Festival in September 2005. While it failed to win in competition, it did walk away with Cinema of The Future, the Young Lion Award and the Best Innovated Film Award in the non-competition section. It won the award for Best Film at the 26th Blue Dragon Film Awards. The film had its U.S. premiere on September 30, 2005 at the New York Film Festival. It began its limited release in North American theatres on May 5, 2006.

Damned if I can find my review for this one, but I remember liking it even more than Oldboy...

Not sure whether writing the original titles is a good idea because in the list of movies for those who will search for Sympathy for Mrt. Vengeance (or similar) will be looking at a wrong letter. We're not IMDB...

Heh. Worst case scenario then will be that they actually request the movie, and as I quite often check Krem's list, they'll get the movie in any case.

Terribly disappointing. I really liked Old Boy, especially upon repeat viewings. Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is lacking all the complexety and edge of Old Boy and is, at times, a very simple revenge/lynching film. I don't know...there was such a build-up to the "big revenge plan" and in the end it turned out very simple and unspectacular. The flashback structure which reminded me of Amelie for some reason didn't work for me either...

Re: Chinjeolhan geumjassi [Sympathy for Lady Vengeance]
Not as good as Oldboy, but I did like this a lot more than Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Yeah its a pretty simple revenge film at its core, but Park Chan-wook brings so much style and energy to this with his direction and just like Oldboy I just loved the grittiness of it even more so with those black and white scenes. I just found this to be way more engaging and interesting to watch than anything in Mr. Vengeance even if the story isn't the most imaginative.
