Cyborg
CyborgQuote: Cyborg is a 1989 martial-arts science fiction film directed by Albert Pyun. Jean-Claude Van Damme stars as Gibson Rickenbacker, an underdog street fighter who battles a group of murderous marauders (The Pirates) led by Fender Tremolo (Vincent Klyn) along the East coast of the United States in a post-apocalyptic future.

Cyborg
I absolutely adore Cyborg. It's one of my childhood favourites that I still love even today. Fender is such a villainous bastard and Van Damme is the hero as always, but it's the post-apocalyptic setting that I cherish. They've created, and probably only on a small budget, a better and more encapsulating end of the world feeling than I Am Legend with all of its millions and studio power. The fights are awesome and the story is as basic as it needs to be in order to showcase the action.

Re: Cyborg
Yes, this is a fun film; my fourth favorite Van Damme vehicle, I believe, after Bloodsport, then Timecop, then JCVD.

Re: Cyborg
I never got the love for Bloodsport or Timecop (average movies). I get why JCVD is liked, and I also liked it, but it's not "OMFG AWESOME" like its IMDB and RT scores would indicate. I am guessing here, but perhaps in 1994 Timecop's effects were pretty great, but I saw it around that time and still didn't love it. It is the most tame of Van Damme's movies, which is probably why it received the best run of his movies.

Re: Cyborg
I actually have never seen Cyborg, or any of Van Damme's post 2000 work, but I was a fan in the 90's.
Timecop is a film with one of the better narratives, while it also attracted a bunch of sci-fi fans. That must have helped in getting his cred up for the film.
For me, his best is Universal Soldier
I think Bloodsport is better than Kickboxer too, but really they're both good films, and I'd watch anything from 88-98 right now. He just had a great 10 year run of very entertaining films.

Re: Cyborg
His best is Kickboxer, followed by A.W.O.L. (known by some as Lionheart or Wrong Bet), then Cyborg, then Universal Soldier, then Nowhere to Run, Double Impact and Hard Target. Others of his that I like, but probably couldn't rank, would be Sudden Death, Double Team, Legionnaire, Street Fighter and Maximum Risk.
Man, he's had an awesome career. The first seven are all As.
