 The 'burbs The 'burbs Quote: The 'Burbs is a 1989 American black comedy thriller film directed by Joe Dante starring Tom Hanks, Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, Rick Ducommun, Corey Feldman and Henry Gibson. The film was written by Dana Olsen, who also has a cameo in the movie. The film pokes fun at suburban environments and their eccentric dwellers.

A definitive Black Comedy, Im almost sorry to say its my favorite Tom Hanks movie, its not his best, but its easily such a fun scenario that anyone in a culvasack has thought about. The characters are great, the story is top notch with thrills and laughs throughout, and is just a good time. A-
Alright, I think Ill give Forrest Gump and A league of their own, and Saving Private Ryan are great films, but The Burbs is just so rewatchable.

All one has to ever do if they are curious why I say Tom Hanks the comedian blows away Tom Hanks the actor, would be to watch this movie. The most hysterical black comedy ever. It's got a great cast, and Bruce Dern doing comedy was a revelation that never went as far as it should have.
This makes my top 10 favorite comedies of all time list.

a very fun and sometimes creepy movie. hanks and bruce dern are terriffic.

Re: The 'burbs Definitely an A+. So many great moments from all of the cast. Hanks is brilliant as the cautious but inquisitive type, Bruce Dern is fantastic as the eccentric veteran that still thinks he's got it type, and Carrie Fisher in a sexy little flowery number. Funny, quirky, and unashamedly American, and I love it.
