 Dog Day Afternoon
Dog Day Afternoon Quote: Dog Day Afternoon is a 1975 drama film directed by Sidney Lumet and written by Frank Pierson. The film stars Al Pacino, John Cazale, Charles Durning, Chris Sarandon, and Carol Kane. The title refers to the "dog days of summer".
The film was inspired by P.F. Kluge's article "The Boys in the Bank", which tells a similar story of the robbery of a Brooklyn bank by John Wojtowicz and Salvatore Naturile on August 22, 1972. This article was published in Life in 1972. The film received generally positive reviews upon its September 1975 release by Warner Bros. Pictures (now a sister company to Life), some of which referred to its anti-establishment tone. Dog Day Afternoon was nominated for several Academy Awards and Golden Globe awards, and won one Academy Award.

My second favorite Al Pacino film, if I'm not counting The Godfather as "an Al Pacino Film". (And Justice For All... is my favorite)

Possibly a new favorite. Perfectly directed, one of the best male performances, amazing screenplay, it's entertaining, thrilling, sad, and fecking hilarious too. Too good.
Pacino carries this though. Man, 1975 was NUTS for the Oscar race. Not only the 5 Picture nominees (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Jaws, Dog Day Afternoon, Nashville, Barry Lyndon), but Best Actor too, I imagine it was impossible to choose between the two, especially considering both were overdue and previously neglected.

 Re: Dog Day Afternoon
One of the finest films ever made. Al Pacino's performance here was ground-fucking-breaking, he was better here than in any of the Godfathers. Every second rocks, and I liked how they made The Law appear to be the enemy here. It also has one of the simplest, shortest yet most effective end credits ever. The acclaim it's got is still nothing short of lacking, as well as in this forum.

Indeed, a terrific movie. With such a delicious twist involving "the girlfriend."

^^^ I eventually got sick of its hassles. I can't believe there's only 6 people here who adore this film.

 Re: Dog Day Afternoon
Al Pacino's performance blew me away. The story was quite interesting and most likely pretty crazy for its time. Makes me like Inside Man even more, as it plays off this movie so well, using the plane storyline, but focusing on the police side instead. Crazy that this was all true though. Did Sonny ever do much after he got out of jail? (I know he died in 2006.)

He tried to get more money for his story. He was a nasty little creature.

 Re: Dog Day Afternoon
Pacino gives an all time performance.
I don't care if he sucks now, but his performance in this and Scarface and the Godfather are all time roles.
Easily the best Bank-Heist film till Heat...
