The Monster Squad is a comedy/horror film written by Shane Black and Fred Dekker and directed by Fred Dekker (who also wrote/directed Night of the Creeps). It was released by Tri-Star Pictures on August 14, 1987. The film features the classic monsters (re-imagined by a team of special effects artists including Stan Winston), led by Count Dracula (Duncan Regehr).

I remember taping this off of some movie channel like HBO when I was a kid. I watched it so much, I wore out the tape. Seriously, nothing brings back nostalgia quite like this film for me. One of my all time personal favorites. It's Van Helsing done right.

I loved this film so much as a kid, I actually formed my own Monster Squad. We even had our own business cards.

Of course, a group of 8 year olds searching for Dracula in a primary school playground was never going to be entirely successful. But I still hold out hope that the day will come our services are needed.

A+

Another childhood favorite of mine and one of the first films I have ever seen. Seen it many many times after that. It is very cheesy and silly, but so much fun and it is also quite creative. Love it.

Hah. I remember loving this movie as a kid, so I picked up the 2 disc 20th aniversary edition, and I'll say I was not disappointed.

Yes the movie is cheesy and bad. I love the fact that almost nothing is explained either, or how the kid even comes to the conclusion they need to kill the monsters, or that he found the convenient book to have all the answers. Apart from that, its a lot of fun and ridiculously short (The director says almost 20 minutes of the plot was cut out) and I had a blast going back to my childhood.

A- Cult Classic
