 Screen Counts/Crowd Reports Nov. 18-20
I wasn't sure if I should start another thread on the topic, but it seems to make sense since the other Harry Potter threads are more for predictions.
As of today, my 16-screen theater in Austin, TX has sold out one 11:59 show, and just added another 11:59 show.
Anybody else?

Well, when I went to buy my 16 tickets at our local Regal Cinema, the manager advised me to arrive early (as if I don't; he didn't know I'm very experienced in midnight-showings) because they were anticipating a sell-out.
One of the AMCs here has an unclickable showtime, but I know that it isn't sold out 'cause a friend bought tickets from the box-office there. I guess they just weren't selling online.
There's two other AMCs here that have midnight showings, and both are still clickable... But I anticipate them being sold out by that night. That's what happened with HP3 last year.
My group would have been going to the AMC that's in our city, but the company initially only had 24 AMCs across the country set up for a midnight showing, and ours wasn't one. We waited as long as we could, but we ended up going to Regal Cinema instead (even though it's a bit of a drive). And then just a *day* after I bought my non-refundable tickets.... our local AMC put up a midnight showing.
Oh well, the Regal is a *far* better theater than our AMC anyway. Our AMC is riddled with speaker problems and crappy projectors, even in the nicer, bigger auditoriums. Regal, on the other hand, has beautiful DTS surround sound and their projector is so clear and sharp that it looks like a digital projector. So, we'll be getting a better movie experience anyway, and AMC lost out on our $100+ by waiting too long to make a decision about our local AMC...

Goblet of Fire fastest selling Potter ticket
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- An unstoppable phenomenon for both readers and moviegoers alike, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is already generating magical advance ticket sales online. The highly anticipated movie is accounting for the majority of Fandango's weekly ticket sales, two full weeks before its November 18 release date.
At this point in the film's sales cycle, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is Fandango's fastest selling Potter installment to date. In 2004, the last Potter film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban broke several Fandango records, including hourly, daily and weekly sales. In a recent poll on http://www.fandango.com, the majority (47 percent) of moviegoing voters picked Goblet as their favorite novel in the J.K. Rowling series, another indicator of the strong anticipation for the movie version.
"Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has ranked among Fandango's top selling movies since tickets first became available," says Fandango President and CEO, Art Levitt. "The previous Potter films were amazingly successful and we expect Goblet to be another box office behemoth. We're anticipating huge crowds, as fans flock to Fandango to buy tickets in advance to avoid facing 'sold out' signs at the theaters."

Midnight showing on a 500 Seater sold out within a day or so here at my local theatre in the UK. I expect they will put on extra midnight showings.

the midnight show at my theater sold 60 tickets so far.
That may not seem like much, but my theater is rarely ever popular with advance sales.

There are two theaters in my area. One is Hollywood Cinema, a Marcus Theater (a midwest chain), and one is a Regal Cinema. I prefer the Marcus theater with it's Ultra-Screen, pepsi products, and more legroom (I'm 6'5"). When I bought my ticket on Tuesday 11/1 for the Ultra-screen midnight showing for Nov. 17th, 71 of the 357 tickets had already been sold. It hasn't sold out yet, but I bet it does before next weekend. The Regal theater hasn't sold out yet as it's still clickable on Fandango. I was advised by the ticket seller to arrive early (duh).

One 12:01 showing sold out at AMC Mission Valley...
I'm thinking about buying tickets online for a Friday night showing. I'm completely clueless about the whole ordering online thing but I'll manage.

Well, this is... odd. I just checked Moviewatcher to see about any sellouts, and I found something extremely weird...
My local AMC had had one midnight showing listed for the night of the 17th. Well, now, they have that, AND they have a showing listed for NOON on the 17th! Is that a typo, or is there something I don't know?
Any of you heard of any noon-of-the-17th showings?

How does that compare to Prisonder of Azkaban? Or did that not have midnight shows?

I think it did, considering it opened in the summer and was extremely frontloaded. I'd like to know if it's doing better, though, since selling out a midnight show in mid-November seems a little more impressive than the first week in June, when half the schools in the country are out.

I think all the indicators point to an opening day of around $35 million, give or take a million.

Yeah, it had midnight shows.
For POA, at my local AMC, by 7 o'clock that night, my group was still the only group in the theater. But it managed to get completely full by around 11:30pm. And I know there was at least one additional auditorium that was sold out as well; there might have been more, but I wasn't really paying attention.

One of my local theaters is selling advance tickets for Narnia. I don't think they are for Yours, Mine, and Ours though.
